Nel XIX secolo dell’India, gioiello della corona inglese, giunse in Inghilterra il patchouli, un profumo intenso, acre e persistente. Il successo fu immediato, tanto che sul nome del profumo i poeti inglesi con coniarono un addirittura un verbo patchoulied, cioè profumo con il patchouli . Questa moda si diffuse così tanto, anche in Italia, che alla fine il patchouli divenne sinonimo di profumo scadente. Certamente non è così, però è vero che deve piacere. Comunque, a chi lo gradisce sembra prometta notti di fuoco.
Già da qui emerge la strana ambivalenza del patchouli: considerato afrodisiaco dagli indiani, era usato come contraccettivo dagli arabi. Usato in dosi limitate è stimolante ed è un ottimo fissativo per i profumi, impiego a cui è spesso destinato. A forti dosi provoca sonnolenza e inappetenza. Però, utilizzato con criterio facilita la concentrazione ed esalta i profumi che deve fissare. Anche l’olio essenziale, d’altra parte, si miscela facilmente con molti altri oli (di rosa, neroli, mirra, bergamotto, lavanda)
Profumo per lenzuola e inchiostri
La pianta del patchouli non raggiunge una grande altezza,
un metro circa, ha grandi foglie e fiori violetto chiaro. Le foglie
si raccolgono ancora giovani, quindi vengono seccate e distillati al vapore. Contrariamente molte altre piante, che perdono l’aroma seccando, patchouli li acquisisce sempre più. In India, una delle zone di provenienza di questa pianta, lo si usava come febbrifugo, antisettico, stimolante e insetticida. Ma la destinazione principale era la profumazione. Così ripartito si profumavano lenzuola, abiti e perfino l’inchiostro. Chi ama il profumo del patchouli e vuole diffonderlo in casa propria può provare a preparare un pot – pourri decisamente orientaleggiante con: 100 grammi di foglie di patchouli , 80 grammi di fiori di lavanda, 50 grammi di legno di sandalo, 50 grammi di foglie di arancio o limone, 20 grammi di cannella in polvere. Lasciate mescolare gli aromi per un mesetto in un contenitore chiuso, dopodiché potrete spargere il pot- pourri per casa, arricchito con qualche goccia di olio essenziale. Ed eccoci così arrivati all‘olio, che in aromaterapia si potrà usare, oltre che per profumare gli ambienti e tenere lontane le tarme provate a mettere nell’armadio un cartoncino impegnato di olio, evitando il contatto con gli abiti, anche per fini terapeutici e cosmetici. Per le sue proprietà battericide, l’olio si presta la cura di varie affezioni della pelle, tra cui le micosi (piede d’atleta) e le dermatiti. Naturalmente, prima dell’applicazione l’essenza va diluita in un
olio veicolo, quello di mandorle, che ammorbidisce la pelle, va benissimo. Chi ha i capelli grassi può aggiungere una voce al solito shampoo. Infine, per facilitare la concentrazione si può bruciare un po’ di olio nel fornello per le essenze. Allo stesso modo, se lo si desidera è anche possibile creare un’atmosfera rilassata e e sensuale. In quest’ultimo caso non resta che porti una domanda: avranno avuto ragione di indiani o gli arabi?
