Angelica: la pianta degli angeli
Un giorno ad un monaco in preghiera apparve l’arcangelo Raffaele, che gli indicò una pianta preziosa per le sue proprietà terapeutiche:fu così che l’ Angelica, tradizionalmente considerata nell’Europa settentrionale (suo luogo di origine) una panacea per tutti i mali,ebbe il suo nome. Già nel Medioevo i monaci nepestavano le radicie aggiungevano la polvere ottenuta avini ed elisir,usati
per curare idisturbi respiratori e digestivi, e addirittura la peste. Durante le epidemie dipestedel XIV e XV secolo si usava infattimasticare o bruciare la radice.Gli uomini del medioevo non si sbagliavano: tutt’ ora vengono riconosciute all’ angelicaproprietà:
- carminative
- sedative
- cefalee di origine nervosa
- espettoranti
- digestive
- toniche.
Una ventina di anni fauna donna francese, morta a120 anni,dichiarò di consumare tutti i giorni radice di angelica, a cui attribuiva la propria longevità. Ma pare che già in epoca preistorica gli uomini si fossero accorti che l’odore della radice attirava i cervi, e sfruttassero questa caratteristica per cacciarli. Nei paesi del nord, dove l’ angelica è molto diffusa, questa pianta conosce molti impieghi.In Lapponia,per esempio, con le sue grandi foglie.

Lapponia, ma anche in Islanda e in Iberia, i fusti dell’ angelica vengono consumati comeverdura, conditi con il burro. In Norvegia si aromatizza il pane con la radice pestata. D’altro canto l’ angelica è anche un ingrediente di variliquori, tra cui il gine la famosachartreuse dei monacicertosini. Infine, a partire dal X secolo, quando cioè i Vichinghi diffusero l’angelica nell’Europa centrale, il suo fusto viene consumatocandito.
Un ombrellifera imponente
L’angelica è veramente una pianta imponente, e quindi non è difficile notarla nei prati ricchi d’acqua dell’Europa centrale e settentrionale:alta anche due metri, forma un cespuglio di quasi un metro di diametro, ha grossi fusti cavi e vistose infiorescenze a ombrella, di un giallino molto tenue. In Italia non cresce spontanea né viene coltivata, si trova una specie simile ma meno imponente. Però chi avesse un po’ di spazio in giardino potrebbe provare a coltivarla, perchési tratta di una pianta ornamentale, dotata di un suo tipico aroma. Forse proprio per il suo aspetto imponente, un tempo le si attribuiva la virtù di proteggere i bambini dal male.
L’angelica si può usare in molti modi. Per esempio è possibile spruzzare qualche goccia di olio essenziale su un fazzoletto e inalarlo per alleviare unacefalea dovuta a stressdue o tre volte,
a intervalli di un’ora circa o perliberare il naso chiuso.Provate anche a mettere 3 – 4 gocce di olio nell’acqua calda della vasca:servirà a calmare idolori reumatici e a rilassare. Invece, spezzettare qualche foglia all’interno delleautomobiliaiuteràdeodorare l’ambientee a prevenire ilmal d’auto.
