La maggioranza deitumori non epitelialidello stomaco sono benigni,asintomatici e sono rappresentati dalipomi, neurinomi, leiomiomi, angiomi e dai tumori stromali gastrointestinali(Gastrointestinal stromal Tumor, GIST).
Le neoplasie di grandi dimensioni (in particolare i GIST) possono ulcerarsi e sanguinare. L’ecoendoscopia consente un’accurata determinazione dell’ estensione intraparietale della neoplasia.
I GIST sono tumori (non solo gastrici) derivanti dalle cellule di
Cajal (plesso nervoso mioenterico).
La sintomatologiad’esordio è legata acomplicanze emorragiche; le varianti maligne possono esordire con sintomi metastatici.
Il leiomiosarcomi sono meno dell’1% dei tumori maligni dello stomaco. Sono diagnosticati in fase avanzata, con sintomi di massa emorragia; la sopravvivenza a 5 anni è del 25- 30%.
Lo stomaco può essere sede di neoplasie metastatiche (melanomi, tumori mammari).
