Che cos’è l’ittero?
L’itteroè una condizione medica caratterizzata dallacolorazione giallastra della pelle, delle mucose e degli occhi, causata dall’accumulo di bilirubina nel sangue.

Ittero epatocellulare
L’ittero epatocellulareè un tipo di ittero causato da un danno o una disfunzione delle cellule epatiche (epatociti). In questo tipo di ittero, la bilirubina non viene elaborata correttamente dal fegato, quindi si accumula nel flusso sanguigno e si deposita nella pelle e nelle mucose, causando un colore giallo della pelle e degli occhi.Le cause possono includere epatite, cirrosi epatica, tumori epatici e malattie autoimmuni. Ittero ostruttivo

Il trattamento dipende dalla causa sottostante e può includere la rimozione dell’ostacolo attraverso interventi chirurgici o la dilatazione della via biliare con un palloncino.
Eziopatologia dell’ittero
La bilirubina è un prodotto di scarto della degradazione dell’emoglobina, la molecola che trasporta l’ossigeno nel sangue.
Nel fegato, la bilirubina viene trasformata e coniugata con altre molecole per renderla solubile in acqua e quindi escretabile nelle feci. Quando il fegato è danneggiato o non funziona correttamente, la bilirubina non viene processata adeguatamente e si accumula nel sangue, causando l’ittero.
Le cause dell’ittero possono essere molteplici e includono:
–Problemi a livello del fegato, comeepatite,cirrosio malattie autoimmuni
–Blocchi o ostruzionidelle vie biliari, che impediscono alla bile di fluire correttamente dal fegato alla cistifellea e all’intestino
–Malattie del sangue, comeanemia emolitica o talassemia, che provocano una maggiore distruzione dei globuli rossi e quindi un aumento della produzione di bilirubina
–Farmacio sostanze tossiche che danneggiano il fegato o ostacolano la sua funzione
L’ittero può manifestarsi in vari modi a seconda della causa sottostante e della gravità della condizione. Oltre alla colorazione giallastra della pelle e degli occhi, i sintomi possono includereaffaticamento, nausea, perdita di appetito e febbre. Il trattamento dipende dalla causa sottostante e può consistere in farmaci, terapie per rimuovere gli accumuli di bilirubina o, nei casi più gravi, trapianto di fegato.
